When parents are at work full time, there are a few places that babies and young children can go to. Most of the time, relatives are too busy to look after a child, while nannies can be too expensive to hire. Therefore, many parents choose to drop their kids off at day cares on the way to work in the morning, and then pick them up as mom or dad drives home that evening. With all of the time that kids can potentially spend at the day care, it should be a place that parents can trust.
About thirteen million babies and children attend a day care each year. This means that day care centers play important roles in our lives, and they should uphold certain safety standards to help protect all of the children they serve. However, there are a number of things that can go wrong in these types of centers as a result of overcrowding, inexperienced staff, or staff negligence. When day care centers do not hire trustworthy or reliable staff, several things can go wrong. First, some people can get easily frustrated with crying or shouting children. The staff can lash out at the kids, and an irritated hip bump to a child can cause him or her to fall and get seriously injured. For babies, one of the reasons that people admit to shaking babies is because they won't stop crying. Shaken Baby Syndrome causes irreparable brain damage and even death.
Next, if a day care center is understaffed, the adults who are there are not able to keep an adequate eye on the kids. This can lead to kids biting each other. As humorous as this may seem at first, human mouths are actually full of bacteria which can be transferred into a person's skin after a bite. This can lead to harmful infections and even need stitches. Secondly, if a child spills liquid or food, this presents a hazard for slip-and-fall accidents. Lastly, if the play area is not kept neat and clean, kids can trip and fall over toys that are lying around.
Additionally, if the children's toys are not well-kept, they can injure children. Broken playthings may expose small, easily swallowed pieces or sharp shards that can cut kids. Also, if the nursery does not keep track of the age recommendations for toys, children may end up playing with toys that contain parts that are dangerous to them. Lastly, day cares that drive the children around are at risk for auto accidents that can harm children as well. Day care centers should hire employees with good driving records and train them to appropriate operate buses, vans, or other motorized vehicles that carry the children.
Always remember to choose the genuine day care centers that will definitely provide the necessary safety parameters for your child. Check their every facilities, environmental inspection is also necessary, and evaluate their background records on issues pertaining to safety in handling the children.
