Wordpress Turns Blogs Into Websites

Why use WordPress as a website? Before I spent some time with the platform I had no idea. Soon I learned that WordPress is much more then just blogging. There are several features that WordPress can offer you that bring it to the next level, and all of these can make your blog look more like a website-blog cyborg every day.PagesThe availability of pages can make your blog more than it ever was before. Pages can add the dimension your blog needs to move to the next step in its online existence. Once you've snagged yourself some of the all-important content, the sky is the limit. The staple page is of course About. This kind of page can really make your blog bring more to the table without cluttering your webhome.Personally, my favorite thing about pages is their ability to give your readers more to click about for. You want your site to be like beef jerky: savory and delicious, with lots to chew over.I would recommend about five pages for a normal blog/website creature. Five keeps it uncluttered, but makes it information filled as well. If you're going to go for less, no worries, just make sure the stuff you put up there is quality {naturally}. I wouldn't recommend going for more unless you know exactly what shenanigans you're going to be up to.ThemesIf you're not going to use WordPress then your going to have to do one of a few things {that is assuming that messing with HTML daily and getting your hands all sticky with CSS isn't your thing}:

Get yourself a WYSIWYG {evil!}
Panic
Get a Designer who'll hug you when you start to panic
Panic

Some of us are broke, for instance myself, so designers aren't on our list of things we need, you know, cause we've got food up there right now. And some of us don't have an R2D2 toy to keep us calm.When you're not a code geek, Themes are your best friend. With one click, you can change the entire architecture of your website. Awesome to the max. It's like having a web designer on hand all day - and some of them are even free. The right theme can make you look more like a blog, more like a website, or more like something in-between.Content Management SystemYour Dashboard is another thing that makes WordPress act more like a website then just a blog. It gives you the power to see what's going on and when. Content on all of your pages is easy to get at and change. Stuff can be kept up to date with few headaches. This makes things cleaner and more stress free for everybody.The editing tools available aren't just for people using the system for posting on their blog, but also for people who are building a webhome. With things like trackbacking, custom excerpts and categories, SEO can be super easy.Conclusion?Use WordPress for your website because it's easy, cheap, awesome, cheap, and great. It's also open source for the win.Seriously. Do it.
