Spain's wild coast, Costa Brava, is a traditional Europe holiday destination. But it still has secrets and lovely Toosa de Mar is one of its best kept. Your base during a Costa Brava stag party, Toosa is conveniently next to the huge airports, but has retained its original charm.
Tossa, once a retreat for such artists as Marc Chagall who described it as a 'blue paradise", has been overshadowed by neighbouring resorts, Lloret and Malgrat. Combined with its geographically more remote nature, it has thus been spared of crass over-exploitation, overcrowded beaches or sprawling mammoth hotels.
Instead, what remains in this alluring city of 5,000 are wide stretches of golden sandy beaches, a beautifully preserved medieval city centre, crystal clear water for scuba divers and snorkelers alike, beautiful sunsets and a generally laid back attitude for a memorable stag party.
A Historic Town
Soak in the attitude as you explore this exceptionally walkable city by starting with its extensive 12th century walls and old houses founded on the site of a 1st century Roman villa. There are the remains of an old fort next to the beach, some ruins of old Roman villas next to the bus station and a couple of old churches.
Tossa has a distinct joie de vivre which is obvious in the warm hospitality of its people and beautiful ladies. It has a bubbling night scene with no shortage of venues for live music, clubbing, and local fiestas with dancing in the streets, fireworks and an overall air of gathering.
Seafood Galore
There are many good seafood restaurants down at the beachfront especially in the old quarter with Catalan dishes such as 'suquet', a fish casserole, 'simitomba' which is fish in garlic sauce or 'escalivada' which is red peppers, aubergine and onions baked in a dish.
Nightlife in Tossa
Tossa has good discos and clubs but for those who want a more laid back scene, it also provides late evening bars to enjoy classical Spanish music, rock and roll, jazz and the latest chart hits. Otherwise, enjoy people watching along Paseo del Mar or admire fabulous sunsets on the beach at El Celler.
Do as the local crowd do during your stag party and head to Ardilla or Tahiti or try the traditional Spanish wine Porro which is drunk from a long spouted vessel at La Parrra.
Activities in Tossa
Tossa's lovely and wide beaches are bound to convert you into a sunworshipper even if you are not one now.
Before you think that too much alcohol has addled your brains, the mermaid swimming next to you is the lusciously naked senorita who is your guide on our snorkelling trip in a secluded cove. Play at being association by speeding underwater with a motor scooter after a riveting high-speed boat road along the Costa Brava coastline. Relax at sea or test your skill, energy and wiles against the feisty tuna or the heavyweight marlin. When your day is said and done, we will take you out on a guided bar, pub and cub crawl to complete your stag party at Costa Brava.
