What is the Holy Grail?

Many believe The Holy Grail is the cup Christ drank from at the last supper. There is no proof that any of the dishes from that last supper were kept. Mention of a vessel associated with Christ called the Holy Grail only begins much later than biblical writing in French legends.

Many people have their own belief as to what the Holy Grail really is. Dan Brown’s novel The DaVinci Code has brought the whole issue to many people’s attention for the first time. His thesis is that it is not a cup but a woman and she carries the blood line of Christ.

Indiana Jones searched the world for the Holy Grail. He has many adventures as he seeks the power of the Grail before it can fall into the hands of evil.

Before I used the Holy Grail in my book titles I researched extensively. There are many myths and versions of stories surrounding the Holy Grail including the ones involving King Arthur. Monty Python spoofed the search for the Grail in a 1975 movie.

Celtic mythology carries legends of a cauldron or pot with magical powers long before the time of Christ.

Common practice often uses The Holy Grail to express the ultimate or best in a category like a sports hero, wine or other product.

Those who seek The Holy Grail seek the magic and the power they think will improve their lives. They imagine all the wonderful things they could have or do if only they obtained the Grail.

My Holy Grail is the essence of the authentic self that connects with the energy of the universe. Connection with the true Self can lead to choices that create a life where blessings abound and joy is present. It is a spiritual state where there is confidence to feel and know personal abilities are being used to their fullest. It is a difficult state to maintain but well worth the effort.

Like the chalice or cauldron, the individual is filled with spirit. Finding my Holy Grail was a wonderful experience as recounted in Questing Marilyn: In Search of My Holy Grail. Protecting my Self from being destroyed or influenced to become something I am not has been an ongoing challenge. I recount this in Questing France: Deepening the Search for My Holy Grail. In Questing Home: A Safe Place for My Holy Grail I face the forces of evil that would want me destroyed. Oh Indiana and Arthur, where were you when I needed a hero?
