Teeth whitening requires that you follow a few steps so that you can reap the best results. Some of the steps can be taken care of at home since they concern personal improvement. However, others are related to your dental health history. So before you take teeth whitening, you should consider the following:

*All cavities in your teeth should be treated prior to beginning teeth whitening. Otherwise, the cavities might get affected and become painful due to the chemicals used in teeth whitening.

*If you have the problem of receding gums, get some medication. Otherwise, roots could get exposed and be harmed.

*If you have crowns and veneers, you cannot undergo teeth whitening.

Once you address the above dental health issues, you have come closer to beginning the teeth whitening procedure. Now you should take a few measures at home before you visit your dentist or do the teeth whitening at home itself.

*Brushing your teeth is usually taken as a routine process. However, for those who are taking teeth whitening products or have undergone teeth whitening procedure, brushing is very important. Brush after every meal and do it thoroughly.

*Floss at least twice a day. Flossing keeps the food you eat from building up and harming the roots. The problem of receding gums is caused due to the reaction from acids in foods that gets accumulated and even brushing doesn't clear them.

*Use mouthwash regular to prevent bacteria and acids from harming your roots. This may seem an exaggeration but anti-bacterial products do help in teeth whitening.

Follow these tips and you won't have anything to worry about staining or discoloring your teeth.
