Beliefs - They Can Work For And Against You

Belief in yourself and your purpose strengthen your will and your resolve when they inform the way you act and think. Belief can be a great source of comfort and reassurance, to know that what you hold to be true seems clear and good, and that you are empowered to achieve anything you set your heart and mind to.  After all, your beliefs have been learned through adversity and challenge - you've thought about them long and hard. You choose to uphold your beliefs and principles because you believe they're critical to a just and loving world, and they are the foundation of your resolve to find and fulfil your true purpose in life.

But how about when your self-belief slips? What if you are so overwhelmed by the enormity of your potential and the scope of your vision that you'd rather convince yourself that your beliefs aren't strong enough to fuel your purpose, and you allow self-doubt to creep in to sabotage your own journey? And the more credence you give to your doubt, the less focused you will be and the less motivation you will feel to push yourself onwards.

That doubt is as much an energy force as that incredible resolve you previously had. But this is a negative energy. It drains your heart and soul and pretty soon, you start believing negative things about your abilities and your gifts and the rightness of your chosen path, that you will actually end up talking yourself out of your incredible future. Can you imagine that? Talking yourself out of leading the most beautiful and inspiring life you could possibly dream of? It sounds ridiculous doesn't it? And yet that is the effect of negative beliefs - you will sabotage your own happiness if you allow yourself to do so.

Think also for a moment of the effect of your crisis of faith in yourself. All that negative energy radiating out of you, creating an invisible shield between you and those others who are sparking with positive belief. How can you connect when the energy you're sending out is bouncing back against what could be your sources of inspiration and encouragement?

Learn from these crises. Let yourself feel what the doubt and despair are doing to you. Breathe into them, sit with them, and give yourself the permission to let go of them.

Be in a quiet space and remember the emotion of utter joy when you knew you were doing absolutely the right thing and that there was no stopping you heading down the path for that horizon. Visualise it. Remind yourself of the fire in your veins and the leap of excitement in your heart. Imagine being on that path again, moving forward, with determination to be the best you can possibly be.

And now allow yourself the joy of reclaiming your purpose, reaffirming your belief in yourself and the universe and your connection to it. Focus on your vision and your life's true purpose, and remind yourself of what your deepest and innermost beliefs are. Reinforce them by living them every day.

Your positive and energising beliefs will sustain you through the toughest times. They will inspire you, invigorate you, and empower you, because with that fire in your soul you can overcome any challenge and any adversity.
