Skin care products aren't regulated by the FDA, so companies who make such products often cut corners and put in substances that can be damaging. In fact, a number of the chemicals found in popular skincare products have been found to be potential carcinogens, cancer-causing agents. They use ineffective ingredients in place of the better but more expensive ingredients. This is why users are now looking to natural skincare products in place of artificial products.

Finding natural skincare products can be difficult since companies are allowed to advertise as they like on their products, but some companies are signers of the "Compact for Safe Cosmetics." Those in this pact encourage companies to comply with the European Union's safety regulations while the Food and Drug Administration continues to do nothing.

With the increasing number of studies concerning cancer-causing agents, the EU has encouraged companies to refrain from using ingredients that are known to cause cancer or strongly suspected of causing cancer no matter how convenient. Ingredients also cannot be linked to increased risk of birth defects since this has become a major problem due to chemical additives.

Natural skincare products have been used since nomadic times. Communities would use plants and substances that naturally grow on earth to treat diseases and skin problems alike. They, too, wondered why we aged and what causes blemishes and a variety of skin problems. Even back then, beautiful skin had more to do with women than men because soft skin wasn't a commendable trait on men. Warfare and hunting often led to coarse skin, and soft skin implied a lack of hunting prowess. They still looked to natural substances to ease the pain of sun burn and other skin diseases.

Skincare products have grown in popular due to the increasing desire for beauty in women and healing among sexes. A lesser known skincare substance that most people have in their houses is honey.

Scientists believe that honey has been used for the last two millennia to treat insect bites, abrasions and irritations. They have more recently been sued to ease the pain of removing band-aids and as an antibiotic.

Studies show that all types of honey have antibacterial and antiseptic properties, that some kinds can be potent enough to treat staph infections immune to the current antibiotics we currently have available. This is great news considering the fact that there has been a dramatic rise in staph infections in hospitals; it is also much cheaper than finding a new antibiotic and manufacturing it.

Other naturally occurring substances that are found in prime natural skincare products are avocado and olive oils, natural vitamin E - which softens the skin - clay minerals, and vitamin B5. So don't risk you health, check the label on your product to be sure that known carcinogens aren't present and give natural skincare products a chance. You'll be glad you did.
