With New York having more than one team for each of the four major sports - Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Hockey, the sports calendar is always full, either for the home or away games. Of the nine teams that represent New York in these four major sports: two belong to the Major League Baseball (MLB); two to the National Basketball Association (NBA); three to the National Hockey League (NHL); and two to the National Football League (NFL). In addition, New York has two Minor League Baseball teams - the Brooklyn Cyclones, affiliated to the New York Mets; and the Staten Island Yankees, affiliated to the New York Yankees.

Of course, it goes without saying that you can buy the cheapest sports tickets directly from the venues, provided you have the time to stand in long queues. In spite of this, you are not assured that you will be able to lay your hands on the tickets of your choice. Booking for the sports tickets are done as soon as the schedules are released, and it is never easy laying your hands on them, especially during the sporting season.

Alternative Sources

If you happen to be visiting New York on business, or on a vacation, and would like to take in some sporting event, buying sports tickets, especially at the last moment, is never going to be easy. However, there are sources other than the venues through which you can arrange to purchase your sports tickets.

Some of these sources, at best, can be termed as risky. People are known to buy their sports tickets from such sources, and are also known to have lost a lot of money on fake tickets. Sources, such as resale forums - these abound the ether - and auction sites like eBay, etc have anonymous people putting their tickets on sale. Some may be genuine sellers, who for their personal reasons may not be able to attend a particular sports event, but many others could be scamsters out to make a quick buck at your expense.

You only come to know that you have been had after you have dished out a hefty amount for your tickets. These tickets turn out to be fake with no genuine seat numbers, and you will find that the 'seller' has evaporated into the ether.

Then you have those parasites known as scalpers who are found lounging outside the venues of the sporting events. Here, too, you are not sure of the genuineness of the tickets. It is only later, when you try to enter the venue, that you find out that you have been scalped.

The Genuine Alternative

Other than the venues of the sporting events, the only other alternative source for genuine sports tickets are the many ticket brokers of New York. Ensure that the ticket brokers you approach are legitimate and are members of the National Association of Ticket Brokers (NATB).

Legitimate ticket brokers are reputed to ensure that you receive your sports tickets for the games of your choice.
