There are certain events in one's life that are too rare and precious not to capture properly. Foremost among these is one's wedding, a (hopefully, these days) once-in-a-lifetime event and one of if not the single most defining event in many lives. Everyone wants the perfect wedding, and that includes getting the perfect wedding photography with which to capture the memories.
But what does great wedding photography entail? One might like to think that in this age of pocket-sized digital cameras and hand-held ninja robots that have replaced cell phones, wedding photography would be easy to get provided of course that your friends and family aren't already using their phones the instant the ceremony ends (hopefully, everyone they would call is at your wedding!) However, while such things are convenient ways to catch impromptu events like when your nephew dives head-first into the wedding cake, they are hardly sufficient for your wedding photography needs. And before you get Mom and Dad to break out their new digital camera to do the job, consider that there is more to great wedding photography than a good camera.
For the best quality pictures, you want a professional wedding photographer, someone who not only knows his or her way around the latest in digital cameras, but who also understands such subtleties as lighting, hue, saturation, curves, color balance, and all these other wonderful options that show up in the Photoshop menu that I understand far less than my brother. On a related note, unless you have a graphic designer for a younger brother, you're probably also going to want a wedding photographer who is proficient with current photo-touching software and knowledgeable about not only the technical skills required, but how to apply those things aesthetically to get the pictures looking perfect.
In short, while anyone these days can capture a memory on fil-well, on a half-inch card that probably has a better memory than I do, it takes a skilled wedding photographer with both technical skill and artistic mastery to provide the perfect wedding photography for this important day.
