We always loved gadgets and not always in a platonic way. Some of us have been more guilty of this than others i.e. I'm pretty sure that I saw Mike licking that Acer Predator when he thought no-one was watching but even so, we're loving these Myvu Crystal glasses thingys.

It hooks up to most any portable media player, from iPods to the Nokia N95 to a range of handheld consoles. It'll even connect to a full size console if that is the sort of thing you'd like. Other options for connection are a DSTV decoder and just possibly, a DVD player. Putting the Myvu on is a simple matter, it is like wearing glasses with headphones attached. Once it is turned on, a screen is projected in front of you. One of those optical illusions we reckon but it works.

The dual screens are no bigger than your eyes but it is like watching a TV. The picture clarity is great, sharp enough to allow one to read the subtitles on a DVD or that text in a game. The sound is crisp, though it is a plan to check the volume level before slipping those buds into your ears. Since it reaches volumes that can shatter eardrums. Battery life is acceptable and since it charges via USB, if you are watching movies on a notebook, you can charge while you watch.

A couple of minor gripes are that the wires that allow the entire thing to run are a little annoying. It is designed for portable media though so thinking of it as an eye-headphone may help. It can be a bit uncomfortable after extended use and it doesn't make much allowance for folks who need glasses. The ear buds are a little invasive but this may be simply personal opinion. Some folks like the in-ear fittings, some don't. Overall though, it is a great little gadget that will allow for a lot of fun on an extended trip. Quite a bit like having a television attached to your face. Thankfully, it doesn't weigh nearly as much as a plasma TV.
