Doc Rivers 2008 Nba Coach of the Year
Doc Rivers born Glenn Rivers on October 13, 1961 is honored both for his professional NBA playing career and his coaching career. His professional NBA playing career began representing the United States with the national team in the 1982 FIBA World Championship, where he made the MVP selection. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, where he averaged a double-double for the 1986-87 seasons, later played for the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and finishing with the San Antonio Spurs.
His coaching career began in 1999 with the Orlando Magic where he was honored with his first Coach of the Year title in 2000. After being fired from his coaching position with the Orlando Magic in 2003 he took over as the head coach for the Boston Celtics. Rivers took the Celtics to a victory over the New York Knicks in 2008 with a victorious 109-93 point win. Due to this accomplishment he was chosen to coach the 2008 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans. In 2008 Rivers won his first NBA Championship as a head coach for the Boston Celtics.
Doc Rivers is a member of the All-Star Advisory Council for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA youth basketball support program, offering guidance, coaching and parent training for youth basketball leagues across the country. Doc Rivers has demonstrated to be a great leader through out the course of his entire career. He has been considered a great addition to the NBA organization with his charismatic personality and sharp basketball mind.
