Many different types of anti-fungal medicines are prescribed to treat Candidiasis, including Amphotericin B, fluconazole, nystatin and ketoconazole. Like many other prescription drugs, these often come with unwanted side effects, but may be necessary in the case of severe Candidiasis or where all other treatment options have failed.

There are many foods that can be a cause of yeast infections as I have explained below, but antibiotics are the primary cause of yeast infection due to the fact that they kill beneficial bacteria in the intestines. This allows the yeast and fungi to take control and proliferate in the human body.

Antibiotics are also present in many common foods that most of us eat. More recently antibiotics are now being detected in the water supply from our overuse. The wastewater enters the sewer system, which is then treated, and pumped right back into the water table. The antibiotics are never removed and it becomes a never-ending circle.

If you have a vaginal yeast infection, you may have a discharge from the vagina that is thick and white and lookslike paste or cottage cheese. Other symptoms of a vaginal infection are: itching redness of the outer part of the vagina (the vulva) a burning feeling when you urinate. Some women infected with Candida have no symptoms. In men, the yeast can cause swelling and redness on the penis and foreskin. Yeast infections of the penis are morecommon when the penis is uncircumcised. If the mouth is infected, the lining of the mouth is often red and sore. Sometimes the yeast causes white spots andpatches on the tongue and cheek lining. This is called "thrush." The yeast can cause creamy-yellow, raised sores on the mouth. On the skin (including skin with diaper rash), candidiasis produces an itchy red rash. Often the rash is a red patch with small red bumps around it.

Candida research shows that when your immune systems is compromised, this normally helpful yeast can "morph" from being a beneficial yeast into a harmful fungus. This fungal yeast can quickly multiply and overwhelm the beneficial flora (acidophilus type bacteria) that normally keeps the yeast levels in check.

When you have had candida overgrowth, it will have greatly decreased your ability to absorb nutrients. So once you have got the candida under control, you need to get some nutrients back into the body.

Nonprescription vaginal medications are available for treating a vaginal yeast infection; vaginal boric acid capsules are another option. If you have had a vaginal yeast infection before, are not pregnant, and are certain your present symptoms are the same as during the previous infection, you can self-treat your infection. If you have a yeast infection that keeps returning despite treatment, see your health professional. A recurring yeast infection can be a sign of another health problem.
