On December 25th, American citizens tend to focus on the birth, life and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, this year I want to focus on the trial of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Yes! According to the scriptures, He had a trial according to the Laws of His day. Was it a fair trial? I think not. Was the criminal justice system in His day just as corrupt as our criminal justice system is today when it comes to innocent people standing up for truth? Let me first point out the players who testified against our Lord Jesus Christ and their motives then I shall point out what our American criminal court procedures are today compared to the Roman government.

What harm did Jesus cause in the Jewish nation? In John chapter 11 verses 47-53: "Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation." And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish. Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad. Then from that day on they plotted to put Him (Jesus) to death." Now who was Caiaphas? Caiaphas served as High Priest from A.D. 18 to 36, an unusually long tenure for anyone in that role. His longevity suggests he had a close relationship with both Roman and Herodian dynasty. He was the son-in-law to his predecessor, Annas. He controlled the Jewish temple and no doubt personally profited from the corrupt merchandising that took place there. His enmity against Jesus seemed intensely personal and especially malevolent for every time he appears in scripture, he is seeking Jesus' destruction.

Is the American Criminal Justice System the same type system which was in place when the Roman's tried our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Let's look at the meaning of criminal justice. According to Blacks Law Dictionary: Criminal law: The substantive criminal law is that law which for the purpose of preventing harm to society, (a) declares what conduct is criminal, and (b) prescribes the punishment to be imposed for such conduct. It includes the definition of specific offenses and general principles of liability. Now let's look at the meaning of criminal procedure: The rules of law governing the procedures, by which crimes are investigated, prosecuted, adjudicated, and punished. Generic terms are used to describe the network of laws and rules which govern the procedural administration of criminal justice.

Let it be known, it is a fact that the trial of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the Roman Government rule was encouraged by the Jewish community. I believe the same criminal justice system, we in America have today, would be the same type of system that would have crucified our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Matthew 26: 56, Christ states, "No man taketh my life, I am laying it down." According to the scripture, our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ is the sacrificial Lamb of God. In Matthew 26: 2, Christ further explains "You know that after two days is the Passover and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified." According to scripture, Passover was "God's chosen time for Christ to die." He was the anti-type to which the Passover lamb had always referred. Christ had always avoided His enemies' plots to kill Him. (Luke 4:29,30; John 5:18; 10:39), but now it was His time. The true Lamb of God would take away the sin of the world (John 1:29).

Now back to His arrest: As Jesus prayed with His disciples, the chief priest and the elders of the people came along with a multitude of people to arrest Him. They wanted to bring Him before the Roman government. This event is similar to a group of vigilantes coming together to kill a man they hated because he is a threat to their way of life. Information about Jesus' arrest is further explained in Matthew 26:59 "The chief priests and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; but found none; yea though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses and said, this fellow said I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days." Now is this a charge for death? As His trial continued, Jesus stated: "Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven. (Matthew26:64)" Now was this a statement to be killed over? Because Jesus told the truth He was murdered. Is our American criminal justice system operated by our so-called religious leaders today? If our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came on the scene today would He receive a fair trial? What is the spirit behind our criminal justice system today? Is it to protect the innocent or the powerful? I will let you be the judge.

You see the religious leaders of today are still trying to run things on the planet. They hide behind the politicians to make sure we the people are not aware of their activities. They remind me of Bart Simpson famous words, "If you did not see me, I didn't do it." You see when Jesus Christ came on the scene, His teachings were a threat to the current religious and political leaders. Are innocent people being brought before the courts of law today because of their teachings? Yes. They are called political prisoners, who are in prison today because they are a threat to the powers that be.

Are there innocent people being killed today? I know you the reader, have heard of someone who was innocent be murdered. For example, children are being murdered everyday just to hide the sins of their parent. Through American legislation, our American court system protects the "woman's choice." The children are not guilty of any crime, yet our criminal justice system convicted them to death. Does our criminal justice system allow the killing of innocent people because they are a threat to the powerful? Yes!
