To learn any language fast is a feat in itself, and to learn French fast is no exception! Language do take time to learn, not to mention motivation and dedication, but if you are willing to persevere, and put the plan I am goin to give you in this article into action, you will find that, in relative terms, you are able to learn French fast.

The first factor is not a linguistic one, but a quality you are going to need, if you are really going to learn French fast, so you'd better be sure you have this quality, and lots of it, or you probably won't stand the course. That quality is intense motivation.

Find yourself a genuine reason why you want to learn French that reflects a burning desire within yourself, create an internal image of it, and intensify it as much as you can. Let it become what motivational speaker Anthony Robbins calls your 'magnificent obsession', and draw upon this internal image whenever you feel your motivation beginning to wane. Keep topping it up.

Now to the linguistic matters - get yourself a good, modern French course that is based on dialogues, and that also contains the three vital elements of any language course. Those elements are: vocabulary, phrase/idiom and grammar.

Ideally, you're looking for a course that encompasses all three, but that doesn't go overboard with unnecessary details or explanations. You want the raw, everyday language, and not the poetic language for reading, given that your goal is to use French. Of course, if your goal is to become proficient in the poetic language, you should choose a course that reflects that.

Make sure your course has an audio component: this is vital! You need to have access to the dialogues containe within the course on audio so that you can listen to them over and over again.

Now we get into the nitty-gritty that will ultimately allow you to learn French fast!

First of all, listen to the pronunciation recordings over and over again. Listen, listen and listen and when you start to feel comfortable with the sounds, begin to repeat. Keep on listening, even when you start to feel bored. If your pronunciation section on the audio involves phrases, learn them as you practise.

Next, a day or two later, it's time to move onto the dialogues. The secret here is to, again, listen and listen, then to start to repeat. Get yourself a personal stereo or MP3 player so you can listen to the dialogues throughout the day.

After excessive listening, move onto the meat of the unit and work though the explanations. Note down the vocabulary and phrases on mini flash cards and carry them with you througout the next day, taking every opportunity to read them and review them. Take about two to three days over each unit of your course.

Finally, and this is an important step that will trip you up if you choose to neglect it, be sure to review what you have done on previous days again and again. This need be little more than practising using the flash cards you made and listening to the dialogues again. The reason for this is that rapid learning can often lead to rapid forgetting unless you support it with review.

Follow these steps and you could complete a basic French course in as little as a month and retain a lot of what you have learned. In this way you will truly learn French fast.
