If you have already read Parts 1 & 2 of this Article mini series-"An Elaboration of the Basics of Free Website Promotion", then welcome back. If not, in Part 1, we discussed three important free website promotion techniques. They included: submitting your Websites to Directories, joining Forums within your niche area of interest and writing and sending out Press Releases. In part 2, we covered Article Marketing and Banner Advertising. In Part 3, I will delve into Search Engine Optimization, Free Classified Advertisements and Creating You Own Newsletter.

Let's look at this whole Free Website Promotion topic objectively. Ask yourself just why you have spent your precious time building your own website? The obvious answer to me is that you have a parcel of knowledge or some form of information whether it be a product or service that you want to share with other people on the Internet. Your website is there so others can see it and learn about you or your business. And if you are not being seen by others, then the purpose of your website is lost completely.

In this article series, I am able to cover only a few of the many Free Website Promotion techniques. Advertising on a search engine is one of the most basic ways of freely inviting visitors to your site. But advertising is not enough to ensure that you have the right amount of visibility which will get you noticed; therefore, a high search engine ranking is an absolute must (90% of these users do not bother to check beyond the first 30 results). Search engine optimization is the missing link between a good business and a great business: it will keep your website well visited and will earn you customers.

Search Engine Optimization - Free Website Promotion - # 6

The definition of Search Engine Optimization differs depending on who you ask. Search Engine Optimization is defined as the process of improving a website's search engine compatibility by virtue of implementing various proven website design features and functions such as choosing good content and content relative keyword selection and placement, using meta tags concisely and effectively, proper html formatting and clean code, building up as many backlinks as you can from other websites, plus a host of other methods that will ensure that your website has a high search engine ranking that leads visitors to your website after they conduct a keyword search.

Many people classify Search Engines and Directories as being the same. But there are distinct differences between the two. A Search Engine utilizes computer algorithms in order to determine the acceptability of a website for inclusion into it's index. A 'spider' will crawl a website and bring the necessary data back to the search engine for indexing. A Directory, on the other hand, does not make use of technology to determine the acceptability of a website. On a Directory, a human being actually reviews a website to determine whether or not a site meets their criteria for indexing. The "index" is a hugh database that stores all of the information about websites.

Some of the things you may wish to avoid when working on your SEO include avoiding artificially increasing a page's keyword density. For example, you do not want to stuff a webpage with unnecessary words in order to heighten its keyword density. Nor do you want to hide text or links. For example, you want to avoid writing out a bunch of keywords on a website in the same color as your background in order to trick the spiders into thinking you have a greater keyword density then you do. Both of these tactics are considered unethical and, as such, you could be heavily penalized if you are found out.

Classified Ads - Online- Free Website Promotion - # 7

Free classified ads are very much the same on line vs. offline. The biggest difference is the amount of space you have to place your ad in. In an offline publication, you are normally using abbreviations and have room for an ad with 16 to 24 words. In online advertising, classified directories normally tend to give the advertiser a great deal more space, often as much as a couple of short paragraphs, and that is on the free services. In a paid classified service, the space allocated can be as much as a full page or more.

Years ago, classified advertising online was a very popular means of driving free website traffic to your website, but it seemed to die out in the late nineties. The most prolific of all Classified Directories is one most people have familiarity with. CraigsList.org has weathered the storms over the years and is now one of the most visited websites in the world.
With an Alexa ranking of 46, it's no wonder that Ebay has purchased a third of Craigslist.com for big bucks.

And Craigslist.com has a Google page rank of 8 (PR 8): what that means is that advertising on craislist.com will give you a back link to your website from a high PR level website. Google loves this sort of link from another site. And there are actually ebooks out there that will instruct you on just the right ways to utilize craigslist.com to enhance your free website promotion techniques.

Create You Own Newsletter - Free Website Promotion - # 8

Deciding to publish your very on newsletter (ezine) may well be one of the fastest ways available to you to establish yourself as a successful Internet marketer. Considered a relevant way to deliver information to your customers, a good ezine will provide several benefits for you, the publisher that include:

1. You can offer free and useful information to your customers which further establishes your credibility.
2. An ezine enables you to target your customer base, and learn the demographics of your customers.
3. You can use your ezine to establish your credibility and become an authority in your chosen niche.
4. An ezine can become a major source of revenue to your business by selling advertising, affiliate products, products that you create and products that you own resell rights to.
5. Your own ezine will earn you free publicity.
6. One major advantage is that you communicate directly with your potential customers without the help of any mediator.
7. An ezine provides you with the convenience of delivering your message directly into your customers in-box.
8. Having your own ezine is a means of showcasing your ideas and knowledge, which enhances your customers loyalty and dedication.
9. You could also increase traffic on your website as people who receive your Ezine will probably want to check it out. By adding feedback forms and asking for inputs from your readers, you can even make changes to your website, thus benefiting even more.
10. An ezine can also gain you a great deal of insight into your customers with the proper use of polls to generate feedback.

Publishing your own ezine can appear to be a daunting task, but there are a number of ebooks and other publications that will walk you through set-up to strategies. There are even software programs that will format a newsletter for you and make certain that your newsletter will not be published with a large number of words that will be caught by spam filters.
