The World Cup may be over, but football fans still have a lot to get excited about, with the new Premiership and npower Football League season on its way. The original and best football competition, the 2010/11 season will once again see clubs competing to show who is the mightiest in England and Wales, rekindling the true patriotic spirit of football and leaving the disappointments of the England team far behind us.

Away from the glamour and egos on display the Premier League and international teams, the Football League is about the things that matter - the skill of the players and a mutual love for the game. Following the release of the fixtures in June, football fans in the midst of the World Cup action were already getting more excited about seeing their home team compete in their first match of the new Football League season, which is about to hit our stadiums and screens.

Whether your club is currently waiting eagerly in the Championship, League One or League Two, everything's to play for in the new season - which kicks off on 6 August and takes us through to May 2011 with the play off finals. Only time will tell which teams have been relegated, which have been promoted and who's been thrown off the pitch by then - whether Portsmouth has what it takes to bounce back up or if its place in the Premiership will be taken by an up-and-coming club such as Cardiff.

If you're a fan of Norwich City or Watford, the competition starts a day earlier than most with the game at Carrow Road to be the first match of the npower Championship on Friday 6 August. Casual supporters won't need to head to the south eastern city though, with the match being broadcast live on Sky Sports - meaning that upgrading your digital service could also be part of your preparation in time for the new season. A number of matches will be broadcast by the BBC, so even if you're not a digital subscriber you can still see Leeds v Derby and other high-profile npower Football League matches throughout the season.

You can check who your club will be playing in the first round of the Championship, the Carling Cup and further matches throughout the 2010/11 season by heading online, where you can also keep up with the latest developments both on and off the pitch and find exclusive offers on merchandise and team shirts bought from official club shops.
