Dreaming to become a dancer is something that everyone has done at some point. After watching an inspiring music video, dancer or even a film many people begin wondering how good it would be to become a dancer.

But what if you're dreaming about it on a regular basis and really do want to make dancing your career rather than just a dream? Then you need to start developing an action plan you're going to follow to get yourself there.

If you're young it's fine, you can spend time training and most major decisions will come naturally and you'll be able to make one. But if you're starting late then you need to develop a plan of action for success if you want to become a dancer professionally.

You need to take your first steps as in start attending dance classes or a dance school where you can start learning the skills of a dancer. Once you've started you need to see how you can improve and make your way through the classes from the beginners classes through the levels like intermediate and advanced.

You'll normally want to go to a full time 2 or 3 year dance college where you'll get a good training that will essentially get you to professional standard. So really your goal should be to get yourself to an intermediate standard or above so that you can successfully audition to get into a dance college.

Of course you want to get into the best dance college you can and the one which will help you achieve your personal goals as a dancer. The better your training the more successful you'll be once you are a dancer. Just because you're a professional dancer doesn't mean you'll be getting lots of work which is why training is important.

Dance colleges are good because most people who go in can come out and find work in the dance world. However you don't need to go to dance college. It may not help you achieve your personal goals.

Research what type of training you need in your field. For example if you want to be a professional salsa dancer you don't need to go to dance college, but you'll be training at other locations.

The most important thing is to have goals and an action plan. The mistake most dancers make is they don't have a plan or just spend time dreaming about it. Visualizing success helps but dreaming without any action won't get you very far. Heed the warning!
