Itanagar is a fantastic place and it is worth visiting between oct to april, when the weather remains pleasant. Tourists require a inner line permit to visit this capital city. Comfortable volvo buses ply between Gauwahati and Itanagar. The best way to come to Itanagar is to fly from Delhi to Lilabari that is 69 km from Itanagar. Itanagar has got something for everybody. The museum is located near the gompa, showcases the culture of Arunachal Pradesh with the help of life-size models depicting life scenes of the various ethnic groups of the state. One can have an overview of the cultural heritage of the entire area without visiting every nook and corner of this large state. Ganga lake is another place that should not be missed. It is a quaint lake situated in a quiet valley, away from the tourist trail, having beautiful cottages where one can spend a few days living in the midst of pristine nature. Unless you have a guide, you would miss the lake from the road since it is well concealed by the green mountains. Once you visit the lake, you would never go to other locations in the country and will keep coming back for more, year after year , for the rest of your life, like a narco-user in cold turkey. Itanagar has got a small zoo but will give you the best view of tigers as compared to the larger zoos in the metros. Tigers can be seen from a distance of 2 feet since the fence is a mere one feet from the cage. The happiest of caged animals can be seen at Itanagar. Forget the inferior whole wheat bread is sold at Delhi because the freshest and tastiest original whole wheat bread is only baked at Itanagar in its authentic bakeries. Come and taste the north-east by having a bite of this heavenly bread. All vegetables sold at Itanagar are organic. The ginger and garlic is simply superb. If not for anything else, at least a visit to this city is warranted just to bite into the bread along with the organic garlic butter.
