Most of the best Chinese restaurants are often considered to be in London. Yauatcha and Hakkasan in the West End, Royal China in Queensway and Maxim's in Ealing are three of London's best and it would be tempting and easy to write a whole review without stepping out of the capital. Too many reviews are just based London despite the large amount of cooking talent outside the city but as I am feeling particularly adventurous I am setting out to find it for you.
1. Dynasty
Thomas Street, Bristol
Dynasty has been chosen by Alan Yau, the only man in Britain to have a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant. I can almost stop writing this review now as this speaks for itself but not before I tell you about how amazing the dim sum is. The menu is more exotic than your average. Don't worry, no birds nest soup here but if you fancy eels in black bean sauce then this, if anywhere, will be the place to try it.
2. Dragon- I
Hope Street, Glasgow
Charmingly designed, Chinese but with a modern twist this Glaswegian restaurant has shot to fame in Scotland since its recent opening. The low lighting and high ceiling create a sense of occasion and understated grandeur whilst the beautifully presented east fusion food melts in the mouth with an explosion of Chinese flavour.
3. Flaming Wok
Mile Hill, Porthtowan, Cornwall
Cornwall is overlooked for its eastern restaurants of which there are many. It can sometimes be hard to find very good but also reasonably priced food in this tourist trap area. Flaming Wok is one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I have had the pleasure to eat in with friendly service, tasty traditionally cooked dishes with no MSG to be found and a modern but comfortable interior. The fresh Lobster is an excellent addition to anyone's dinner and the price won't break the bank.

4. China Garden
Preston Street, Brighton.
There are not many Chinese restaurants in Brighton so competition is not fierce yet China Garden is lauded by locals as one of the best restaurants around. The dim sum is very well made and all the food is well presented attracting Chinese families for lunch and romantic couples for dinner. The atmosphere is best in the upstairs part of the restaurant and it is an excellent place to dine with large parties where you will receive lots of attention from the staff.
5. Red Chilli
Great George Street, Leeds
This place is always busy so it's a good idea to book before you turn up. Cleanly presented dishes but some not for the squeamish (the head of the duck is attached and crispy as the rest of it). The food is not cloying or too sweet and doesn't leave you with that familiar bloated Chinese takeaway feeling. Instead the dishes leave you wanting more but with a comprehensive and varied menu and good sized portions you definitely won't be leaving that way.
