Representing the University of Huntington in West Virginia, the Marshall Thundering Herd is a collective intercollegiate athletic team that competes in Conference USA, NCAA Division I. The Thundering Herd?s home base is the Joan C. Edwards Stadium. They parade in the color combination of kelly green and white, with Marco the Buffalo as their mascot.

The Marshall Thundering Herd has won several conference titles, winning the first one way back in 1925. They have won the championships in 1928, 1931, 1937, 1988, 1994, 1996, 2002 and a grand slam win from 1998 to 2000. The 90?s was indeed a rich decade for the Thundering Herd. Not only have they won most of the conference titles, they have an impressive 115-25 win-lose stat in contrast to the 1970 program that they had. Many several factors contributed to the dismaying results of the team stats in that decade. It was in 1970 when a plane crashed and killed the entire Thundering Herd football team and was a complete tragedy for the families, friends, and fans of the victims. Aside from that, the university changed head coaches four times during that period. It proved to be a wrong move on their part since they capped off the decade with a dismal 23-83 finish for the decade.

Though the Marshall Thundering Herd suffered from a great loss from the recent bout with East Carolina Pirates, the team didn?t lose hopes in bouncing back from humiliation. It really hurt the confidence of the team especially that the game ended with overtime and a score of 19-16. Other teams should definitely watch out for players Darius Marshall, Mario Harvey and Darius Passmore in the next few games. Marshall is a sophomore that has recorded his second straight 100 yard game, making it his 5th for the whole season during their last game. Harvey is on his career high with an impressive 15 tackles in their game with East Carolina Pirates. Passmore, on the other hand, has also recorded his 4th reception of the season during the same game. So far the games of the team this season is quite exciting. Their losses are just a few margins away, just like their last game with the East Carolina Pirates and a 23-21 loss with University of Alabama and Birmingham Blazers as well. Their wins are even more exciting since the win jumps from one team to another.

Though they lost the game to their rivals, the team is definitely not out of the picture. Matter of fact, the Thundering Herd still ranks second currently in the East Division with 3-3 for the conference and 4-6 over all. They also rank 10th in total offense with an average of 325.6 yards per game and 7th in total defense with 404.5 yards per game. They also have currently pulled up a remarkable 25.9 points per game and have become the 4th highest in the conference currently and the 68th in NCAA. The Marshall Thundering Herd is without a doubt, a team that deserves respect and recognition.
