It is a natural protein and there are many products that shouldn't be used on silks. One of these items is bleach. Because bleach will take the color out of the fabric, people should refrain from using any harsh detergents on silk fabric. Harsh detergents can actually eat away at the fabric causing the fibers to thin, thus creating rips and holes.
If 100% silk garments become stained, then the best way to take care of the problem is to simply soak the garment in cool water. Just remember to do this before the stains set in.
The best way to clean it, such as silk scarves, a silk dress or a pure silk blouse, is to hand wash using a mild detergent. Machine washing can be too rough of a process. Hand washing allows the garments to be cleaned without the hard tumbling of a washing machine. However, if they do go in the washing machine, then place them in a lingerie bag.
The lingerie bag is used to protect delicate garments and will maintain durability. There are items on the market that are made specifically for silk fabric garments. However, a mild non-alkaline soap will also work well when cleaning 100% silk fabrics. As well, its garments should never be placed in a dryer. Always hang dry.
For all of its lovers out there, it is important to note how to care for garments to ensure a long wear life. This can be done easily from home, as long as the cleaning process is followed correctly. One of the main points to remember is not to use any harsh detergents on the fabric.
If harsh detergents are used, then a lot of damage will be done to the delicate garments. Always remember to use mild detergents on 100% silk fabrics. Following these instructions, along with other helpful tips will ensure that silks can be worn for years to come.
