A good way to reveal a great deal about a person's personality is by checking out their bedroom.  You can determine if that person leads an organized or messy life by the order in which they keep their personal belongings. Have you ever walked into someone's room and wondered where the floor was underneath all the clothes?   They might try to use the excuse that it's an organized mess and they can find everything.  How is it possible to think clearly if your living space is full of disorder?

Clutter actually prevents positive energy from flowing properly throughout your home.  It also inhibits your cognitive ability and eventually spreads into other areas of your life, negatively affecting your emotional state of mind.  If you have a friend who is an organizational guru, ask them for help.  They will shed some light on the subject and get you started with your mission.  However, they will not be there to hold your hand every step of the way.  You will need to learn some survival skills if you can't afford to hire a personal assistant.

Begin by going through your piles of papers and rapidly alphabetically file only the most important ones.  Keep some extra files on hand if you need to put papers somewhere at a moments notice and have no where else to keep them.  Moving forward, put all papers, receipts, and notes in one place then weed through them regularly.  To eliminate those paper billing statements, sign up for the paperless versions to view online.  Not only will you save a few trees, but you'll also significantly reduce disorder.

When de cluttering your spaces, start with one area at a time.  Begin with the biggest, most dreaded project first and work your way down from there.  Clear your counters of unnecessary items that aren't used frequently and store them away in the cabinet.  Next, go through your closet and pull out the clothes you haven't worn in awhile.  Make a pile to go to goodwill, another pile to give to a friend, and so on.  Keep your seasonal clothes stored away in a protective box, if possible.  Enlist the assistance of others and it will be much more enjoyable!

Families are much smaller today than they were 30 years ago, but the houses are much larger.  We, as Americans have a habit of filling up our attics, closets, and living spaces with too many material objects.  In general, as a culture we have been taught that having things makes us more prosperous.  We need to get away from that "keeping up with the joneses" thought process to begin to embark on a more stress free, fruitful existence.
