Pets Articles - Top Tips To Successful Kitten Litter Training
Kitten litter training is probably one of the easiest things to teach as it uses a cat's natural instinct for when they go to the toilet. This natural instinct is a cat will always dig a hole into some soft earth then do their business and bury it so that any predators will not pick up their scent. This natural instinct makes kitten litter training really easy.
It is important to know a few facts about a cat's toilet ‘likes' first as this will make it easier to provide as natural a toilet area for your kitten as possible.
1. A cat likes to have a little privacy when they go to the toilet so make sure that the position of your litter box is in a quiet area of your home. 2. Cats will dig in the litter before going to the toilet so make sure that there is enough litter in the box for your kitten to dig and then bury his business. 3. As a cat likes to dig in their litter make sure that there is enough room in the litter box for your kitten to do this. Think about when your kitten grows up; will the litter box still be big enough then? 4. Cats don't like a smelly or dirty toilet area so make sure that you regularly scoop the litter and change the litter itself.
The four points that I have outlined above are all you need to setup the perfect kitty toilet which is the first step to successful kitten litter training.
The next step is actually getting your kitten to use the litter box rather than your carpets. This is a lot easier to do then you probably think! At the earliest possible opportunity (preferably as soon as you bring kitty home) show him where his food, water and litter box are. Actually put your kitten into the litter box so that he gets a feel of the litter under his paws. Your kitten should remember that this is a good place for when he needs to go to the toilet and will go there to do his business.
That's it! Kitten litter training really is that easy, once you have set up the perfect toilet area you simply place kitty into his litter box and then his natural cat instincts will do the rest for you.
