Pets Articles - Socialization and Dalmation Training
Most dog owners, especially the experienced ones, understand the importance of socialization. But to those who are first time dog owners and have no idea what socialization is all about, it would be a good idea to find out how it works and it's importance to dalmation training.
Socialization is not just a series of meet and greet sessions with other dogs and animals. Socialization involves finding out more about their littermates, their mother and humans. During socialization, puppies most also need to know about cars, vet and vet clinics, delivery men, buildings and other people, things or structures common in everyday life. This aims to mold their behavior so that they will grow as well-behaved dals everybody loves to be around.
Socialization period begins at three weeks of age. During this time, puppies should be allowed to investigate and play with their littermates and the mother. Playful fighting as well as playful sexual behavior should also be allowed for these things influence the pup's behavior. Puppies can then be exposed to humans after spending time and getting to know their littermates. Humans should know the proper way to handle or pet the young pups considering the fact that early contact with humans is a great tool in overcoming their fear and stress. It is also recommended that you train your pup to get used to passersby and other people that may appear at your doorstep once in a while such as the delivery man and your kid's playmates.
The next step is exposing your dal to much bigger world outside the comfort and safety of your home. Take him for a short ride to the nearby park or to say hello to your chosen vet. In this way, he will get used not only to riding the car but will also feel comfortable with the vet's presence. It will definitely make future vet trips easy and enjoyable.
One rule of thumb when socializing your pup, always make every experience a positive one. Puppies that are not given appropriate socialization may result to aggressive, fearful or shy grown dog that may not be good for you and your family.
Have a fun-filled dalmation training!
