Single Action Shooting Society, which is more popular by the name of S.A.S.S., is an organization that encourages and promotes Cowboy Action Shooting. Among its various other aims the organization strives to keep the rich heritage of the game alive. It is the controlling organization under which there are several other regional organizations and affiliated clubs that together organize the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting. They are the bearer of the rulebook containing how the Cowboy Action Shooting matches should be played. Besides these, the S.A.S.S is also dedicated towards securing to its members the rights of the 2nd Amendment.

Assuming a Name

S.A.S.S. is not only about serious sporting events, its more about having fun and enjoying the old western life experience for a day. The most exciting thing about the Cowboy Action Shooting games organized by S.A.S.S is the costumes. Before you get into your costumes however, you have to take a name for yourself. Your name might be that of a well known Hollywood hero, or a character out of a cowboy action film, or even from fiction or history. After you submit your name to the authorities concerned, they will provide you with a costume that will make you look the part of the character you're named after! This experience is often much more cherishing than the actual game, for here you can completely go into another era.

Versatility

Cowboy Action Shooting is definitely not the usual action sport. It belongs to the glorious past, and takes you into the world you've probably only seen in old Western cowboy films. This makes the game versatile and one-of-a-kind. Not only the pistols and shotguns remind you of the Old West; it is actually the spirit of the game that will remind you of a long-vanished time. As a participant, winning the trophy is certainly important, but to do this you've got to overcome several hurdles within a set time so that you have the trophy as well as status.

The Spirit of the Game

As mentioned before, it's actually the spirit of the game that's more important than the game per say. Its not just how well you play, but to what extent you can carry off the spirit of the Old West is what matters in Cowboy Action Shooting. The primary aim of S.A.S.S. is to make its members and participants admire the Cowboy era and the West. It expects you to sincerely carry out every thing that is expected of you. This includes wearing the costume assigned, using the old weapons of the game and mingling with everybody. You may accept this as part of the sportsman spirit that this game asks for, or as pure fun.

Gun Store Owners

The S.A.S.S has roped in almost 400 gun stores across the country to make pistols and other guns needed for the game available to every participant. The gun store owners are also taught about the organization, its heritage and the kind of sports it organizes. Participants or new members who visit any of the affiliated gun stores can buy firearms or know more about S.A.S.S. and its rules and regulations. The Gun Stores program is thus a unique way to popularize the game. It's also the only place where you can obtain real Western Gun Holsters that make your costume more befitting of the sport.

Popularity

The End Of Trail is the biggest Cowboy Action Shooting championship which is organized by the SA.S.S. the popularity of the organization and the sport can be gauged by the fact that almost 2000 participants take part in the sport; and what is more spectacular is that more than 25000 spectators cheer them on through the day.
