There are a lot of fine restaurants that serve catfish as well cooked in a variety of different methods to suit your individual taste. This is why in commercial fishing the catfish is considered to be a very important species. It is a big market for catfish as many people will travel quite a distance to visit their favorite restaurant just so they can enjoy a great catfish meal.

If you have never cooked catfish before you will find that the process is very simple and easy to learn. As mentioned above there are several different ways to cook catfish depending on what you like the best, even though frying seems to be the most popular method used. However, if you prefer not to eat fired foods there are other options that are just as fast and easy. Below you will find different steps on cooking catfish so you can choose the best method for you.

Methods and steps on how to cook catfish:

Frying catfish is the most popular way to cook catfish. All you need to do is place butter or oil in a skillet and heat on medium until it reaches full temperature. Once the skillet becomes hot, place the catfish fillets in the pan and cook for about 5 minutes on each side but only turn the fish over one time.

Grilling is another option that is also quite popular. Start by getting the grill up to proper temperature. Spray the racks of the grill with a non-stick spray before placing them on the grill. Place the fillets on the grill racks in single file and cook for about 5 minutes on each side with the lid of the grill closed. If you want to cook the catfish with indirect heat, then you need to place the fillets on the cool side of the grill and cook for 15 minutes without turning and with the lid closed.

Baking is another option that is very easy. All you need to do is preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Place the fillet of catfish single layer on a baking pan coated with cooking spray. Leave uncovered and bake between ten to fifteen minutes depending on how thick the fillets are.

You can cook catfish in a microwave although it is not the most preferred method. Just spay a dish with non-stick cooking spray. Make sure it is microwaveable first. Then cut the fillets in half and place the thickest part of the fillet to the outside of the dish and cook for six to eight minutes on high. Be sure and only cook one section at a time.
