Are The Rich Better Than The Poor?

In our society who gets the attention, who gets honored and revered, who gets put on the pedestal and who gets envied? The rich and famous.

Is God impressed by the riches of man? Does God love someone more because they have money? Will the rich have a better place in eternity because of their accomplishment in this life? Not according to the Bible.

"The rich and poor meet together; the Lord is the maker of them all". Proverbs 22: 2. God has made all and He loves all no matter what their status in life. In emulating our Savior, Jesus, you should have the same attitude. You should love and be concerned for the needs of others spiritually and materially.

A rich man made the statement that when he was poor no one gave him anything, but when he became rich people were always giving him free tickets to sports events, discounts on products he purchased and many other perks.

God is the maker of all and He has blessed some more than others. If you are one of those what is your responsibility to God and the poor? To whom much is given, much will be required. If god has blessed you with riches or does bless you with riches you have a responsibility to follow His lead and meet the needs of those He directs you to. You should show compassion on those less fortunate.

Some will say that I worked hard for what I have and I am not going to give it to someone too lazy to work. There is nothing wrong with that but what about the children and the widows, God instructs you to care for them. There are many in need that just can not help themselves. You should be as concerned about their well being and love them the same as you do some rich, famous person.

In the 16th verse of that same chapter in Proverbs you are told "He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want".

Jesus came first to the ones considered lowly. He was even born in a stable. He ate with and went to the scorned of the day. He showed love to everyone. God is not a respecter of people. Riches and fame do not impress God. What you do with what you have, whether it is much or little, is what counts with Him.

Let God use you to meet the needs of others. Do not look up to the rich but lift up the poor. You will receive a blessing here and now and in the kingdom to come.
