How Can You Get More Clicks? Use Sub-directories

It is a little known fact that the use of sub-directories can increase your relevancy and improve your click through rate (CTR).

Did you know that? I didn't. At least not until recently.

As soon as I learned of using sub-directories, I started testing it. I ran campaigns with sub-directories that were identical to my more traditional campaigns. To put it simply, the results shocked me.

The ads using sub-directories had more impressions, higher click through rates (CTRs), and converted at a higher rate. That means more sales with lower costs per click. Needless to say, my profits soared.

Best of all I simply created a sub-directory that re-directed traffic to a page on my site that I already knew was successful.

So how do you do this? It's simple. A traditional link looks like this:

www.yoursite.com/pagename

With a sub-directory, your link looks like this:

pagename.yoursite.com

The beauty of this -- and why it generates more clicks and has a better relevancy is that the pagename comes first. Think about it for a second -- what you're really interested is drawing eyeballs to your pagename. That's probably what you're selling. The sitename is kind of an after thought. The pagename is what is going to cause people to decide whether they click on your ad or not.

Creating a sub-directory is relatively easy with most hosting programs. Simply go into your control panel and look for "sub-directory". From there you should find simple step-by-step steps to walk you through the process (I'd walk you through what I do, but it's likely a little different with your host). Once the sub-directory is set up, stay within your sub-directory set up menu and create a re-direct. Re-direct your sub-directory to point to the page you are already using (www.yoursite.com/pagename). By doing this, you won't have to recreate any content. You will simply be pointing traffic from the more relevant subdomain to a page you have already created which you know converts well.

Sub-directories put the information you want right in front of searchers. The sub-directory is listed first -- before the name of your site. This grabs the searchers attention. By grabbing their attention you will increase your click through rate. In the long run, your relevancy will increase. This means you will pay less for your clicks (because of your higher relevance and higher click through rate). I expect that you will see more sales too.
