The Seven Best Forms of Online Traffic

Some people say of their web sites that "All traffic is good." But is it actually true that all traffic to your web site is good? Is the student that comes to your site to download a whitepaper for their term paper as valuable as the consumer that comes to look at your products or services? Obviously not.

The best form of traffic is the traffic that is likely to act. Specifically, the type of traffic you want to attract (in approximately this order) is as follows:

1. Visitors who have purchased from you before (and are happy!)

2. Visitors who have purchased similar goods or services before

3. Visitors who have been referred to your site by an existing customer

4. Visitors who have been to your site before

5. Visitors who have come in response to a specific offer they received in an ad or email

6. Visitors that have come to your site via an affiliate

7. Visitors who have found your site using a relevant keyword through a search engine

The reason this type of traffic is better, is because this traffic has been self-qualified - they have demonstrated, through their actions, that they have an interest in, and in some cases have purchased, products or services similar to what you offer.

So while it may be true that all traffic is good, the actual truth is more like "all traffic is good, but some is better than others, so why waste your bandwidth on useless traffic!"
