We Need To Curb The Violence Now

There is not a day that goes by where I don't shake my head in disbelief after hearing the latest news bulletin. I really do not know why anything would surprise me after having lived through some of the very most violent times in the history of this great nation.

Any life that is lost affects family members and friends of the victim for the rest of their lives, even if that person had placed themselves in harms way. However, the worst part of this is that most of the horrendous acts we hear about on the news or read in the newspapers are committed against children or young adults, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the case of the recent school shootings, they just wanted to better themselves with an education and now, sadly, many will never have the chance to make their mark on the world.

We live in an age where our privacy is a big concern to most of us. Every time you step foot in a doctors office that privacy statement is sure to be one of the papers that you are asked to sign. But sometimes we need to put our privacy concerns on hold & focus on what is really important in life. The safety and well being of our family, especially the ones who count on us to keep them safe, need to take precedence over whatever rights we feel are violated by the presence of surveillance cameras. Think about it, could some of this bloodshed have been averted by simply having an inexpensive dome camera in the stairwells, hallways and classrooms? Sometimes just the existence of the cameras is enough to deter crime; however the actual video they capture is invaluable to law enforcement.

Some of the things you hear on the news make you wonder how people who are obviously quite disturbed, are living amongst us with no one questioning their sanity. Even if someone is concerned about another person being a threat to humanity as a whole, you are quickly told that nothing can be UNTIL that person actually commits the crime. We have got to take a stand for the future of our loved ones as well as the future of our country. Often times, a surveillance camera would be able to prove that someone needs help BEFORE they lash out against society. Perhaps a little less privacy in public places is the first place to start.
