Why Carry Drinking Water Containers?

Some recent reports caught my eye about plastic drinking water containers. The report stated that the longer the water is left inside the more likely it is to become more contaminated, as a result of chemicals that go into the making of plastic bottles, leeching into the water inside. That's also sure to affect its taste I thought.

Scary stuff as It had never crossed my mind to think about that. How this leeching happens is best left to the scientists to explain but briefly it looks like it happens in cases where the bottle may be exposed to prolonged heat, like in the trunk of a car on a hot summers day.

If that is the case then I have been doing that for a long time, keeping bottled mineral water in the back of my car. Maybe it was time to change to an alternative as a friend also remarked about the fact that almost 60 million plastic bottles get discarded every day. Plus the resources involved in the making of them, transporting and selling it just seems ludicrous, but we still carry on doing it. Maybe our buying habits will change over time as we begin to slowly take into account the consequences of our purchasing decisions.

So where does that leave the subject of drinking water containers? One very obvious alternative to plastic is glass, which is reusable, totally recyclable and kinder to the environment. Once I had my water filter system installed at home I could fill up my drinking water container at anytime, knowing I was getting fresh, cool, clean water every time.

My wife even flavors her container with some lemon or orange slices for a difference. So maybe the watchword ought to be to ditch plastic and do glass!
