Looking Good

Do you spend a lot of effort trying to look good? Maybe you take a little longer than necessary primping before you go out? Or perhaps you're one of those people who never does anything wrong, it's always someone else's fault (don't even pretend you never go there!). Let's be honest, no one sets out to look bad intentionally. But how do you know when you're one of those people who takes looking good too far?

First, let's explore where the need (I said 'need' - key word alert!) to look good originates. In part, it arises from our craving to be accepted. In other words, if everyone else has, is, or does something - and we don't do it too - we'll somehow be left out of the loop. There's a definite 'Keeping Up With The Joneses' component here, and it's not exclusive to material things.

We can also get caught up trying to look good as a way of protecting ourselves, mostly when it has to do with our (fragile) image. Someone blames us, and what is our immediate knee-jerk reaction? To say we didn't do it, of course - or even worse, to point the finger at someone else. There's an epidemic of 'No Responsibility' prevalent in our physical world, and if everyone else would just get their act together, my goodness wouldn't this be a better place to live!

And somewhere in there lies the fallacy of it all.

Make no mistake, our want for looking good stems from a need. And when we need something, it assumes we were lacking it in the first place (or why else would we need it?). So what is it we're lacking? At the root, it's a security issue. We lack confidence. Trust in ourselves. Faith in the eternal perfection of the universe. And often we don't take responsibility - claiming ownership of our decisions, our actions, and ultimately, our lives. In truth, many of us walk around pretending we've got everything under control, but in reality, we often appear more like actors putting on a show.

So what is the key to feeling good from the inside? It's simple actually. It's giving up the need to look good on the outside. That means doing what you want to do, no matter what others say or think. It means standing up when you've done something you're not proud of, and making it right. In short, it's living your life the way YOU intend - trusting your intuition, and making your own path - regardless of the direction others take, or think is right for you.

The pretense of looking good never feels quite right. That's because it originates from a place of scarcity, a place far away from who we really are. Feeling good ALWAYS feels right, because it comes from a place of abundance, a place of truth. It's completely genuine and is our birthright. So the choice is yours. Starting this moment, are you going to take a stand for how you look, or how you feel? Looking good or feeling good? I've a feeling the choice you'll make.
