You've done a lot of work already in your efforts to build a personal brand. You have your business name, your tagline, your logo, your color scheme and your website design all done. To complete the picture, you now need to convey who you are as a person and what your business message is.

How you want to come across as a person will be dictated by the type of business you are in. If you are a CPA looking for local clients, for instance, you are not likely to be a flamboyant person to begin with. A conservative image is important, but that does not mean that you should come across like every other CPA. Perhaps you have a great sense of humor that you normally try to keep under cover. Let it shine! It will make you stand out from the crowd and your clientele will appreciate working with someone who can make the bean-counting process fun! Make sure the picture of you on your website and the way you express yourself in writing conveys the same sense of fun.

If you are an astrologer looking for clients on-line, the persona you convey will be the opposite of that of the CPA. Although the way you look and dress should convey a sense of mystery and off-beat style, a sense of fun should probably not be part of the picture. What you want to do is build credibility for the ancient science of astrology, and show that you are a serious practitioner. By taking this approach you may just convince some non-believers of giving your service a try.

Can you see how taking a contrarian approach can make you stand out from the crowd and build a memorable brand for you?

As mentioned above, your written message is vital in conveying your brand image. If it is not consistent with all of the other elements of your brand, all you will accomplish is to confuse your potential customers. If writing is not your strength, do not attempt it on your own. At least have your writing professionally reviewed and edited. Search the Web under "freelance writers" and post your job on one of the freelance sites.
