Sandbags have been used for possibly thousands of years. They make great training tools for many types of athletes. Sandbags are popular for many reasons. They are inexpensive and very versatile. Many of today's big fitness machines you see on TV are unable to provide all the benefits you can get from a sandbag. They make great conditioning tools that greatly improve your stabilizer strength, trunk strength, arm strength and grip strength. These benefits can dramatically reduce your risk of injury and improve your performance.

There is no other training tool that will change its shape with every lift giving you a constant challenge the way a sandbag will. After your workout, your body will feel sore because you may have never worked certain parts of your body before. A sandbag can give you this result. They make it possible for your body to find it's own groove and once this is found, you become more efficient at lifting causing the body to decrease the number of muscles being used.

Unlike training with kettlebells, Sandbags can actually rest on your body. Having this weight on you forces the trunk muscles to work harder and more efficiently to maintain your postural alignment making you injury resistant with a rock hard torso.
Rotational drills can be created with sandbag use. Your body can be put into the same ranges of motion you would be in while playing a specific sport. Full body twists, shoulder throws, and half moon snatches, are just a few of the many exercises you can create.

Sandbags may be the perfect tool for wrestlers because they are a tool that is very similar to an actual opponent. They provide a constant shifting of weight which gives the athlete better reflexes when unpredictable fights in the ring occur.
Greater grip strength would be a positive improvement for anyone. The lack of hand training is what may result in carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis of the hands. There is more to grip strength as you might think. Sandbags are the main element in developing and/ or improving this strength. When lifting a sandbag, no two lifts will be alike thus allowing different areas of your hands to be utilized.
