How To Stop In The Moment: Mind

How to stop in the moment is the most important question of life in my opinion.

Why? Why the most important?

Just by dint of immediacy in its nature! Not hurry, but immediacy! When in hurry, you are never on edge.

This edge is always a spontaneously creative one that gives you the joy of being a human, more (much, much more!) than that of being an animal.Same way, lethargy too rots you in the rut.

Both, hurry and lethargy are the mechanical rut of the daily routine of life that is boring and dull. Not only boring and dull, it is a great tension as well that takes its toll on the health of body and mind, as well as on the energy and joy of life.

Our mind keeps running ahead of time, or it is left behind and cannot keep pace with it. It keeps straying either in future or in the past and turns restless.Mental peace is lost.

Physical peace is lost too - the body organs, systems and functions go awry and start making a noise by showing symptoms of disease.Life turns uneasy.

No amount of money spent can make it easy again. You can buy treatment, but not health.

The only way out is to come back to the moment. Now, what does coming back to the moment mean?It simply means being honest with what is there right now here.

Being honest?Being honest means giving it your full attention. Now, how does one give attention to a thing?

Simply by seeing it, or hearing it, or tasting it, or smelling it, or touching it, or thinking about it! There is no other way!But we think about something else.

Why?Why not this?Because something else we find more attractive!Which is not there!

It either was, or it will be, or else if it were!It is more attractive because we do not have it.But why do we need having it?

Either because it was a biological need denied to us, or it is a psychological glamor alluring us with its full hypnotic spell! And the second - the glamor stricken - grows out of the seed that the first - the biological needs denied - one is!

If I am hungry, I do need food. And if I do not get it, I start thinking about it emotionally.

Now, when it comes to hearing, I still keep thinking about food only. This is what the predicament of the animal world is - they keep thinking about food and self-preservation with how-so-much-ever little brain they have at their biological disposal. They always remain under tension since birth till death.

But we are humans. We have bigger brains at our biological disposal. So, if our biological needs are denied, we have a bigger capacity to think much more about it in an emotional way.

That means, we have a bigger capacity to go under tension than an animal does. The bigger brain is not only a boon always; it can easily turn into being a bane as well!

That is why human life, although full of all creative possibilities on earth, is much more tense than the animal life, as such, is.My (all of us!) biological needs were denied to me (all of us!).

But my brain had already given a signal to grab them.I just could not.The signal got preserved as a piece of memory.

Not hardware memory, but software one! Not in the structure, but in the function! Not a technical memory that makes it knowledge, but a psychological one that makes it an emotion! Not in the brain, but in the mind!

A new entity has taken its birth.

Mind!

It's different from brain. It's that function of brain which keeps making a noise by establishing synaptic connections in between the brain cells without any perceptive stimuli from the sense organs being received at the moment; and hence it continuously keeps sending out motor commands to the body muscles even when there is no sensory signal to justify their existence.

The motor responses or commands generated by the brain out of the sensory signals are executed very silently - they do not make much noise as per se.

But mind does do so.It's always busy. It never relaxes, nor does it let you relax too.It generates motor responses and commands to the muscles in the absence of any real perceptual signals.

Is it not dealing with ghosts?Yeah, mind itself is a ghost that responds to non-existent entities. The mind possesses the brain with its ghostly concerns - all emotional in nature!

The efficiency of the brain gets compromised to a great extent. In the presence of the noise signals, generated by the mind; its own pointed, focused and rational signals get lost, corrupted or polluted on the way from the brain to the muscle.

The brain is held captive in the hands of the mind. The mind demands a ransom. The compensation for all the denials inflicted on the biological needs when our body-mind system needed them the most!

And a mere undoing today - allowing what was denied - will simply NOT do the job.It demands a much bigger compensation - all the interest added, and that too a compound one! Plus a disturbance allowance!!

But who is it demanding all this from?

This is the big question that we need answering before we embark upon the pursuit of how to stop in the moment, which I shall be doing in my next article on the same topic.
