Over twenty years ago a new trend of hotel, the boutique hotel, began appearing in major cities around the world … and today they've now become an exciting part of the business of hospitality and tourism. But what exactly is a boutique hotel and how does it differ from any other?
'Small' and 'intimate' are the keywords, with usually no more than 50 rooms … and with fewer rooms, boutique hotels are able offer guests a more personal experience and provide VIP service, tailored to meet their individual needs. Most boutique hotels are privately owned with décor and furnishings that range from classical luxury to the more avant-garde. In many boutique hotels, rooms are individually decorated - each retaining their own unique style.
There are two completely different approaches as far as guest facilities go. While some hotels provide all the gadgets and technology of the modern era in the form of satellite television, bar fridges, the internet, fax and printing facilities, others prefer to offer, instead, quiet luxury combined with impeccable service.
Another fast developing trend in the boutique hotel phenomenon is the appearance of a 'brasserie,' which is quirkily defined as "a restaurant serving beer with food." Once again excellence is the key here and gourmet food cooked using fresh, organic ingredients heads the bill. Dining facilities are normally warm and atmospheric and often include live music for the entertainment of guests.
A fine example of this kind of establishment is The Harrogate Brasserie Boutique Hotel located in the centre of this charming Yorkshire town. It's a truly fine example of a stylish boutique hotel combining a first-class brasserie. With just sixteen snug and inviting rooms, the emphasis is on comfort and individuality, with each of the Victorian rooms beautifully decorated to enhance the building's charm. Attention to detail is the mantra of the owners and in addition to its uniqueness and flair, the rooms all have en suite bathrooms, remote television, direct dial phones and hair dryers.
The hotel's character abounds in the form of the carpeted wooden staircase that creaks occasionally and the sophisticated, moodily-lit bar and brasserie.
The introduction of live jazz groups have added to the exclusive dining experience in the brassiere … and with Harrogate town literally on the doorstep, guests can experience a host of attractions and browse the many upmarket stores. The Royal Baths, Valley Gardens, Betty's Café Tea Rooms, the International Conference Centre, the newly refurbished Royal Theatre and The Great Yorkshire Show are just a few of Harrogate's favourite venues.
The atmosphere of The Harrogate Brasserie Boutique hotel, their exceptional staff, tantalising menu and superb selection of wines, spirits and ales, topped off with the cool sounds of jazz, make it a rare and memorable experience and many guests have become welcome regulars, returning time after time.
