Mysticism In Vedic Astrology

In astrology, there are two approaches, different in appearance yet similar in desire. They are the predictive and the mystic approach.

The predictive approach in astrology traces and plots the planets through the constellations in order to gain a picture of the events that arise from those placements. This of course is the most common astrology. There is a vague knowledge of each planet, sign, and house as they relate to the mundane. This type of astrologer generally thinks the results of positions are fixed, and that we are connected to the planets in a causal fashion.

The mystic astrologer differs in several respects. The planets at his birth are his Self assuming the qualities of each placement. The planets are his becoming, the planet's role in each sign and house. He is not related to the planets by their effect on him, but rather the planets are the total manifestation of his objective consciousness. As the planets move, so does his world. The mystic astrologer doesn't leave action to fate, but rather he identifies with a mover of fate(graha), and carries that energy. His consciousness takes on the roll of that planet, and he is in dominion. He is a Yogi, for each planet is simply an extension of his Self. As each planet wanders through space(akasha), so does the whole world wander through the space of consciousness(cidakasha) of this man.

He has perfect vision for he sees nothing but Self. Any sitiuation to him is just a particular planetary combination which has occured. He can literally and intuitively see each planet in every situational arising. The mystic astrologer can see that each event, person, and thing contains the nine planets. To him, the nine planets are Supreme Reality. He views the planets as stimulators, which operate as, in, and through all things. He becomes identified with this flux of rotation and aspect. His meditation consists of gaining power over one or all planets, not to create new situations or manifest desired effects, but rather to become completely natural in his environment. As this mystic looks into the sky, he sees more than just a landscape of awe, he sees rather his very Self, the Self of all. He sees his mind and body, his friends and foes, his work and leisure.

The mystic astrologer doesn't experience his self as any particular thing, but rather a composite of a point in time, the Wheel of Time(Kalachakra). His body is an utterance of composite space, planets at a standstill, the formation of man, the Body of Time(Kalapurusha). The twelve houses are his playground. He is debilated, exalted and at war in all regions of consciousness. At home he is wise, at work a fool, the planets and houses, this is his game. Inwardly detached from all planets, he travels this world, as the shining Sun and cooling Moon -- giving life and delight to all.
