After the cold and snow we've had this year, I'm sure most people can't even think about another couple months of it. Its cold outside, its getting darker earlier, and you don't see any end in site. Months holed up in your house can make you even sick of watching television anymore. Looking for some unique ideas to get you through the cold, cold winter? Well, here are just a few ideas to get you going.

If you've ever spent a summer in Ohio, you know what the game of cornhole is. If you aren't familiar, its a bean bag toss game where you throw bags filled with corn at a wooden target with a hole, think of it like a safer version of horseshoes. The game is getting more and more popular, and for a good reason, people of all ages can play and have fun with it. What does this have to do with curing wintertime blues you might ask? Well, there is now an indoor version of the game. There is nothing like bringing a summer game indoors to take your mind off the brutal cold outside!

Great games for the winter are games that extend over a period of days, if not weeks. That's why I like starting a game where we keep a running tally of wins and losses and keep it going over a few weeks. There are a lot of different games that you can play, but I like sticking with the classics. Even if you only play for thirty minutes or so a night, its fun to keep the tally going. You can keep the score on the fridge so all your guests can see who's in the lead!

If you're not too much of a gamer, then you could get into a good book. I personally get recommendations of a good series of books and then I just put my nose down until I'm down with the series. The rest of the year, I don't do much reading at all, but I try and squeeze in as much as I can during the winter. So between games and books, hopefully that will distract you enough to get through the cold and dark winter.
