It's not every day you plan a vacation, but when you do, you want to make sure you won't end up at a dump for a week. It's an easy mistake because vacation destinations always put on their best for brochures and other media. Many times you base your decision on a 2 x 2 inch picture!

Here's a quick checklist that will keep you from making a poor choice and will get you to a first class destination 95% of the time.

1. Do a simple Google search on your destination. Let's say you're going to the Bahamas. In Google put - bahamas reviews. You'll come up with a list of review sites.

2. Read only the recommended review sites. They are: www.tripadvisor.com , www.debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com , www.virtualtourist.com , and www.igougo.com Stay away from sites that are loaded with advertisements.

3. Here's the best tip: Go to these major photo sharing sites and review pictures of your destination - www.webshots.com , www.flickr.com , and www.fotki.com , will keep you busy for hours.

On the photo sharing sites, you will see pictures of the vacation areas taken by tourists, not professionals (although some professionals upload to these sites). This, coupled with the reviews from the websites above, will give you an excellent idea of what your vacation destination will look like.

What to look for: Pay special attention to the age of the facility, to the cleanliness. On some photo sites you can view 100 thumbnail pictures at once. Check the clouds in these pictures. Is it always overcast? Check for stray animals, or any suspicious looking characters.
