Coram boy is an adventure of epic proportions which is based a novel by Jamila Gavin created in 2000 which won awards. The fascinating show officially opened on May 2, 2007, at the Imperial Theatre in New York City after a huge success as a dramatic play in London. Coram Boy offers a very emotional experience with a storyline which can only be called rich and insightful. The dramatic aspects of the play come from the dark history of the 18th century which is not often talked about, the many accounts of child abuse and cruelty. Coram Boy tickets are selling on average for forty-five dollars and the shows are not selling out very often.

The Story Of Coram Boy On Broadway

The storyline is centered on two orphans who are in the era of 18th century England and getting another opportunity at life as normal young men. Aaron is the son who was abandoned from the heir to a large fortune and Toby is luckily rescued from an African slave ship. The two boys suddenly find themselves at the Coram Hospital, which is for deserted and abandoned children. It is at this point the two separate down different directions through life. The dramatic play really begins to take off with murder and mayhem as may secrets are revealed. The truths which are presented are extremely dark in nature and the characters which become present add much to the effect of the story with villains and evil aristocrats.

Coram Boy enjoyed two runs in London in which both sold out and reached critical acclaim. The book which was set for the stage opened in London in November of 2005 and then returned again in 2006. The New York production is hoping to recreate some of the moments which took London by storm and hopefully should be a great success. Coram Boy has a large cast of over forty performers including twenty actors and a twenty member choral ensemble along side a seven piece orchestra which performs the music composed by Adrian Sutton. This arrangement provides a great deal of emotion to the play and adds to the drama as well as adds a little more zest which draws the audience in and does not let them go. The addition of actors and orchestra all sharing the same stage may provide a new experience for many also.

The storyline of Coram Boy may seem to be a little to dark for many looking for a nice night out on The Great White Way, however, in the end the story touches the hearts of the audiences with and uplifting turn. Sure the plot starts off in a very dark place of abandonment and abuse, but does turn into a story of devotion and the learning process of trust between fathers and sons. The journey of the characters is both long and enduring with many lessons learned and lessons which in a sense must be learned for all involved. London audiences really took a liking to the story of Coram Boy and time will tell if New York audiences find the magic which was created on the West End.
