Many times people get frustrated because it seems that no matter how much weight they lose or how much exercise they engage in, there is just no getting rid of the pouch in their abdomen.

What a lot of people do not realize is that once the abdominal skin has been stretched due to pregnancy or perhaps excessive weight gain it often cannot get back to the original shape no matter what you do.

Two common and very popular procedures that help people with the "pouchy abdomen" look is liposuction and the tummy tuck. The question you need to ask is which procedure would be best for you? If your main concern is fat in the lower abdomen there is a good possibility that you may be a good candidate for liposuction. During a liposuction procedure fat deposits located beneath the skin are removed. This is done by using a hollow stainless steel tube as a vacuum to suck the fat out. Liposuction can be done using a local anesthesia or a general anesthesia. You and your doctor will decide what anesthesia will be best for you.

Typically people who have a lot of fat, lax muscles and loose skin hanging over your abdomen you may want to consider a mini for full tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck procedure will tighten your muscles, remove excess skin if necessary and tighten the skin up. A tummy tuck is also known as abdominoplasty and is a very invasive surgery. An incision is made just above the pubic area and the skin is lifted, the muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed and then the skin is stretched up. Your belly button will need to be repositioned because of the tightening up of the skin.

A mini tummy tuck is a good procedure for someone who is concerned about a small pouch of fat in their lower abdomen. In a mini tummy tuck procedure the belly button does not need to be repositioned because the procedure does not involve stretching the skin up that far. The recovery time for a mini tummy tuck is usually less because it is not such an involved procedure.

If you are in the market for a tummy tuck you should find out which procedure would be good for you. Any reputable doctor will be happier to do the least invasive procedure on you which would be liposuction. When you are looking for a surgeon be sure to ask questions and find someone who has a good reputation.
