The Killarney Summerfest is in its 7th year and has now become the highlight of the event calendar in the south west of Ireland. This year the festival will take place from the 10th to the 20th of July and has an action packed week of events for everyone to enjoy!
Killarney is located in County Kerry and is internationally recognised as one of the most beautiful towns in Ireland, with its backdrop of mountains, lakes, national parks and historical charms, not to mention its vibrant and colourful town centre with its lively traditional pubs, gourmet restaurants, disco bars and nightclubs.
During the festival the streets of Killarney will come alive with street theatres, face painting and busking, while the much loved and anticipated Teddy Bears Picnic will take place in the Muckross Gardens. Kids can mix fun with learning at The KDYS Youth Centre, which will run art and craft workshops. The little ones can also enjoy an afternoon of magic at the 'Randles Hotels Children's Magical Afternoon for Charity'. They'll also be an outdoor carnival Arts Parade and an outdoor theatre featuring the production -King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
The INEC (Irish National Events Centre) at the Gleneagle Hotel will feature most of the indoor entertainment for the Killarney Summerfest. The line-up of events at the INEC so far include Barney Live!, Riverdance and KT Tunstall who will take to the stage on Sunday 22nd June 2008.
Without doubt, the highlight of each Killarney Summerfest is the outdoor concert in Fitzgerald's Stadium. Past performances include Meatloaf, Bryan Adams, Tom Jones, The Corrs, Elton John and Pink in 2007, but we will have to wait a little while longer for an announcement on the 2008 concert!
With such a stunning location, it's no surprise that outdoor, nature, wildlife events and sporting events feature widely on the festival line up. The Ring of Kerry Cycle, the Killarney Races and the 5km Fun Run are three major events during the festival.
The Killarney Summerfest draws people from all corners of the Ireland, so Killarney accommodation will be in high demand!
