What Makes a Calendar Work?

You only get one shot a year at getting your calendars into a person's home.

This can be kind of daunting for those who aren't as well versed in calendar printing, and I'm sure it scares many people away from even trying to use calendars as a method of marketing their business.

Even if you're using calendars for the first time, so long as you do the right kind of research ahead of time, you can greatly improve your chances of success.

First let's go over what goes into a good calendar.

The reason people choose a specific calendar is almost always going to do with whatever theme the calendar has. Take the calendars that are based on various well known comic strips. People want to see those comic strips each day or have a strong association with them, and that's why they're really going to be getting the calendar.

This means you have to find some kind of theme that will best appeal to your customers. There are two primary ways that you can go about doing this. The first has to do with finding something that is related to your business. For some companies this might be a little more obvious and easy to pull off.

Take for instance a home improvement store. What you can do is have various home improvement tips on your calendar. Each month gives people a different description of some easy way of improving their home, along with a list of the materials they might need.

This accomplishes two important things. It appeals to the people who are going to have interest in tips for making their home better, and the second is that the list of supplies now becomes a good source of marketing to get someone to come in and buy from you.

The second kind of theme will be one that has nothing to do with your company but is still interesting. The options here are quite limitless, but you will naturally lose a bit of the marketing power from your calendar. Of course, each page will certainly have your company name on it, but this will be the greatest part of your marketing.

The reason to go for a theme like this might be because you don't have any good themes that work well with just your business or industry. Not all industries make for good calendars.

No matter which path you pick you have to be sure that this will be something that will work well for your customers. They have to have interest in whatever your theme is or else they won't be willing to put it up on the wall and keep it for an entire year. You need to make sure you give them something they can't help but want to keep.
