Bolton March On

I really don't think Bolton Wanderers get the credit they deserve for what they consistently achieve. I for one, have consistently predicted doom for Big Sam's men and every time they've managed to prove me and many others wrong.

I feel their success is based on a fantastic manager maintaining a style of play he has faith in, and a group of players handpicked to fit the system. It sounds like something straight out of the coaches' handbook but Allardyce is one of only a handful of manager's to achieve it with any small amount of success.

This season, I think they've developed another string to their bow with the addition of one truly quality player - Nicholas Anelka. His pace, guile and goalscoring touch opens up so many doors and gives teams another problem to solve if they want to get anything off Bolton Wanderers.

Some people don't care for their direct style but it wins matches and you don't get to where they are if you can't play football when you need to. After all, if they were just long ball merchants then surely it stands to reason that any lower league team could make a fist of it in the Premiership, and we all know that doesn't make sense.

I personally like watching Bolton and see how other teams adjust their own game to tackle the Trotters robust approach. Most teams go to the Reebok with some kind of plan in place, and they're right to do so. Arsenal never sacrifices their style of play for anyone and have fell victim to Bolton more times than Arsene Wenger would be happy with and they're just one example.

I think what makes the Premiership so fantastic to watch is that every team has its own style and approach. In foreign leagues, clubs can tend to be a 'much of a muchness' but I'm positive if you put Bolton into any one of those leagues, they'd finish closer to the top than the bottom. Would you disagree?
