Adding video to a site can greatly increase conversions, sales, and repeat visitors thanks to the credibility it lends to the site. However, adding video to a site can be quite a hassle if one doesn't know how to go about it.

There are several ways to add a video to a site. Here are the most commonly used means, with a recommendation rating for each:

1. Using Youtube or a similar site as the middle-man:
This requires that you first create a video and upload it to Youtube. Next, you take the object embed code from Youtube for your video, and place it within the code on your site. The downsides to this are that it does not look very credible on a website, and you can lose visitors if they click-out to Youtube accidentally (happens very often). Additionally, you have to deal with the problems of 'trolling', which refers to people leaving obscene and damaging remarks on the videos.

2. Using a Flash engine recognizing CMS to show the video - the problem with this option is that you will usually need to spend a lot of time developing one, or a lot of money to have someone else develop it. You could use a good pre-made open source CMs such as Drupal, but for a small site, that's a lot of work to go through.

3. Using scripts - There are various scripts available today that allow one to upload videos and either convert them to flash objects to be shown online, or simply allow for a mini-CMS solely for the video to run. The problem is that you might need to hire someone to install the script on your hosting. Additionally, the better scripts in this field can be expensive.

4. Using a suitable software program - This is quickly becoming the most popular option these days, primarily because it is the option that is the easiest, fastest, and looks the most professional. However, it is also very important to pick the right software to use since it greatly dictates the consistency and flexibility that is offered.
