If a slim mobile phone is your thing then the Samsung U600 is the phone for you. At just 10.9 mm it's even thinner than the D900 as well as being a couple of millimetres thinner. At the time of writing this is the slimmest slider phone in the marketplace. The U600 is also 10g lighter than its counterpart, making it a very attractive proposition indeed.
The external buttons have been changed and are now touch sensitive. As far as looks go they are brilliant, but not as well received by some users who prefer the solid feel of push button technology.
Internally the phone has a 3.2 mega pixel camera and comes with 60 megabytes of internal storage. This is enough to take approximately 80 photographs. The battery utilizes new technology called OPUS. This sees battery life for both standby and talk time improved from earlier versions of Samsung mobile phones.
The display is 240 X 320 pixels, perfectly adequate for navigating the menu system and for taking photographs. The screen can display 262,144 colours which, although not up there with the N95 is good compared to other mobile phones in the marketplace.
The MP3 player is a handy little addition. The player supports MP3, AAC, ACC+ and e-AAC+ formats so cross compatibility is no real hindrance. The sound quality is also excellent, when listening to music with the supplied earphones there were no complaints. If you are to use this phone as a standalone MP3 player you will need to purchase an SD card, a 2GB card will cost around £25 and is well worth the investment as it can store 500 songs.
Where the U600 really excels is in its loudspeaker. It is powered by a Bang & Olufsen power amplifier that does really well in playing ringtones and music from such a small mobile phone.
The messaging functions are excellent on the Samsung U600. You can view email attachments in MS Office, PDF and HTML formats. This is especially useful if you are away from your PC and need to look at urgent documents on the fly.
Overall this is a super sleek mobile phone, packed with features whilst managing to look good. This is no mean feat and Samsung have done really well to ensure that the U600 is both style and substance.
