Search Peoples - The New Slang Of A Digital World

The Internet has created a new type of people. Whether or not we are simply searching for information on the search engines, or trying to locate people via their myspace account, the isolation that was once experienced in everyday life can no longer exist due to the interconnectivity that people worldwide share through their computers, cell phones, and online services. In fact we have become like the prospectors of the 1800's, committed to searching for any and all kinds of information. We have become search peoples.

Not too long ago, a person that wanted to find more information on a particular topic would go to his local library. There, he or she would search for the card catalog and locate by either title or author's name, potential sources of information that they were looking for. Limited by the knowledge of the librarian and the hope of what the title would bring, information was more like a crapshoot than an actual science for those searching for answers.

Fast forward to the 21st-century where entire documents can be searched word for word and people all over the world can be found in just milliseconds. No longer limited by the mind of a human, supercomputers can now take billions of pages of information and process them on the search engines that we all use today. No matter what the topic is, within just a few seconds, you could potentially have the answer to a question you are seeking, something that would have taken days, if not weeks, just 20 years ago.

The search peoples of today take for granted this amazing interconnected electronic brain that the Internet has become. Though not conscious, the Internet allows us to expand our minds and utilize its vast database to exponentiate our quest for whatever we are seeking. Although artificial intelligence is probably not in the near future, the ability to access so much information in so little time is a modern marvel that must be appreciated and respected.

As we proceed into the near future, with millions of additional pages of information being added to the collective database on the Internet daily, we must stop for a moment with feelings of gratitude for what this electronic age has done for all of us in regard to our progress and our ability to think quickly and efficiently. The search peoples that we have become are nothing compared to what we will be in the near future. And it is this near future that all of us should look forward to with awe and anticipation.
