Hay fever can ruin your summer, and many hay fever drugs can make you feel nauseous or drowsy. Try these 10 tips to help enjoy your summer with a drug free hay fever remedy.

1) Check pollen forecasts daily and stay indoors wherever possible when the count is high.

Most radio stations will give pollen counts at the same time in the morning, or check weather websites which often carry the same information

2) Sea breezes blow pollen inland, so escape to the sea instead of the country

Trips to the countryside can be hell for hay fever sufferers so stick to the sea, or maybe choose city breaks for your holiday

3) Shower and wash your hair when you return home return, and change your clothing before coming back into the living room or bedroom.

Your hair traps pollen and then drops it on your face through the rest of the day. It also rubs it into your pillows so every time you roll over in the night you are breathing in a cloud of pollen, even when your windows are shut

4) Avoid mowing lawns . If you must perform these tasks, use a face mask.

Mowing lawns is probably the worst thing you can do as a hay fever sufferer! However, if your partner really won't let you get away with it, wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose (the ones cycle couriers use around towns are great) and protective glasses.

5) Wear wraparound sunglasses when outdoors to keep pollen out of your eyes.

This year's fashions are all BIG glasses, idea for keeping pollen away from your eyes, and hiding red eyes from the outside world.

6) Avoid drying clothes and bedding outdoors when pollen counts are high.

Cotton can trap pollen blown around outside, the when you sleep on it it rubs back into your eyes and nose, making you suffer for 24 hours.

7) Keep car windows closed when driving. Some cars are fitted with an effective pollen filter.

Also check your air conditioning, get it to re-circulate air within the car rather than constantly drawing in air from outside.

8) Try not to rub your eyes; wash your face and hands instead.

Get the pollen away from your face, don't rub it in. A quick splash of water on your face will do more good than wiping with your hands

9) Don't let pets get close to your face as they carry pollen in their fur.

Just like your sheets and your own hair, pet fur is full of pollen, especially when they have been rolling in the grass

10) Use goggles when swimming to avoid further irritation.

Swimming can irritate your eye so when you come out of the water you are even more vulnerable than when you went in. Keep your eyes clear with a good set of goggles

Follow these tips and your hay fever should be more manageable without having to resort to drugs to help you.
