Robin Williams has had a long career pleasing audiences with his amazing performances. Whether he is in a comedic or dramatic role, Williams' is always at the top of his game, leaving his fans with memorable experiences. He has not only held a long career full of recognizable works, but he is one of the highest rated entertainers of all times.
Movies like "Mrs. Doubtfire" make us laugh together as a family. "Death to Smoochy", while funny, was a bit more dark. He can then turn around and play in an extremely dramatic movie like "What Dreams May Come". It is clear - by this list of movies - that he can play just about any role he is put in - and he does it well. His most recent comedic show, "Weapons of Self Destruction", will offer nothing but superior comedy as he has in the past.
This phenomenal actor was born in Chicago, Illinois, yet raised in Michigan. As a child he was quite the opposite of what he is now - quiet and reserved. He did perform; however, impressions of his grandfather, but only his mother had the luxury of witnessing them.
While in high school, Williams became involved with the schools drama club. This is when the boy began to come out of his shell and conquer a bit of his shyness. He ended up being one of only 20 students who were accepted into Juilliard - a phenomenal feat even today! He, along with infamous Christopher Reeves, were the only two students accepted into Julliard's advanced program. Both actors are memorable and adored; this program, along with their skill, obviously provided them with a great foundation.
Williams' career really began when he played Mork in and off-the-air TV show known as "Mork and Mindy". Mork was an alien, who came to Boulder, Colorado to make a life and get information. This is where his comedy career took a name, and he became known as an actor who could deliver rapid-fire comedy. After this he moved on to other movies that were more focused on comedy, on the outward appearance of his character. (There were always deeper parts to his characters, but you had to read between the lines to see them.)
"Good Morning Vietnam" and "The Birdcage" were two of his first - most well known - performances of his career. Another building block for Williams was his part in Disney's Aladdin - he was the voice of the genie. Actors who can act and do animation are a special breed!
His comedy shows would always sell volumes of tickets, if not sell out. In the 70's and 80's her performed many stand-up comedy acts, along with three HBO specials: "Off the Wall" (1978), "An Evening with Robin Williams" (1986), and "Robin Williams: Live at the Met" (1986). Additionally, Robin Williams performed a one-man Broadway show called "Robin Williams Live on Broadway". The combination of all of these acts won him the 13th spot on Comedy Central's list "100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time".
Tickets are being sold for Williams' most recent production - "Weapons of Self Production". If you have never seen him live, now is your chance; if you have, you know you probably should see him again. He is a great performer and hilarious comedian!
