Which iPod Is Best For Me?

So, you've watched your friends play, listen, and watch their iPods, and now you've decided to splurge and get your own. Congratulations! That's the easy part. Figuring out which one to buy is going to be a bit harder. For starters, there are currently 3 models of iPods to chose from, each with its own size, capacity, price and features.

The iPod shuffle is the cute baby-sized model. It clips onto your clothes, and weighs in at just over half an ounce. It holds 240 songs or so on a 1 Gb flash drive. It plays for about 12 hours, then requires about 4 hours to recharge, so you can listen all day and recharge it at night. It retails for about $79. If you're just wanting to listen to audio, this is the one for you. Your final decision is which of the 5 colors to purchase.

The iPod Nano is the mid-sized model of the three, at 3.5 inches by a little over 1.5 inches. The Nano has 3 flash drive sizes, capable of storing 500, 1000 or 2000 songs, or up to 25,000 photos. It plays up to 24 hours of audio, or 5 hours of slideshows with music, then it requires a 3 hour recharge time. Unless you are a real music/photo fanatic, it will take quite a while to use up that space. It retails for $199 to $249, depending on the capacity.

It also comes with different accessories. You can buy kits to allow you to use the Nano in your car, playing through your car speakers, for instance. Newer model cars have iPod capability built in!

The newest iPod is the Video, or G5 model, with a 30 or 80 Gb hard drive for storage. You can store up to 20,000 songs, 25,000 pictures, or 100 hours of video. The 30Gb model retails for $249, the 80 Gb model goes for $349. It features a 2.5" diagonal screen size.

It plays for 14 hours before requiring a 4 hour recharge. It measures a little over 4 inches by a little under 2.5 inches.

All three come with the scroll wheel for controlling the playback. That takes a little time to get used to, but after a few minutes, half an hour tops, you'll be comfortable using it.

The iPod and iPod Nano come with cases. The window is easily scratched, so you can buy a thin plastic protector. You can also buy an armband if you want to listen while you work or jog, or a sock protector, or a hard case protector. There are also electric chargers, but you can also charge the iPod through the USB port on your computer.

I hope this short article helps you decide which iPod you will show off to your friends next week.
